A Quick Guide to Binding

Binding is a gender-affirming practice that refers to flattening or compressing the chest to create a more masculine appearance. This is commonly done by folks who are assigned female at birth (AFAB) and are transitioning to a male or non-binary gender identity. Binding helps reduce the prominence of the chest and may help alleviate gender dysphoria, which is the discomfort or distress caused by the mismatch between one's gender identity and their physical appearance.

There are several methods of binding:

Binders & compression tops

Our compression top supports, smoothes, and reduces your chest while allowing for ease of movement and, unlike traditional binders, allows you to move comfortably.

The front panel is designed with multiple layers of firm stretch and non-stretch fabric to flatten the chest while allowing the garment to curve around the body. The back panels are medium strength stretch fabric allowing for ease of movement and breathing.

  • Great for everyday wear.

  • Easy to pull on and off.

  • Strong flatlock seams

  • Additional shoulder strap stretch for flexibility and comfort.

  • Elasticated waistband to keep in place

T-tape

Designed for body taping, breast lifting, supporting, compression and/or "binding", Body T-Tape by UNIQUE is a medical grade breathable body tape. When applied as recommended, Body T-Tape by UNIQUE can be worn for multiple days, so you can work out, sleep, and shower while wearing it, unlike a binder.

  • Recommended for coverage of breast cup sizes B-D.

  • Each roll measures 5 inches wide x 16.5 feet in length.

  • Uncut roll allows you to cut pieces to the desired length for your body shape.

  • Waterproof and sweatproof.

  • 95% cotton and 5% spandex, medical grade acrylic adhesive (from Henkel, Germany), latex-free, and non-medicated

  • Available in three skin tones.

Sports Bras: Some individuals may use a tight-fitting sports bra, although it is generally less effective than a binder.

Homemade Methods: Some people may use ace bandages, duct tape, or other materials to bind, but this can be dangerous and is not recommended because it can cause damage to the skin, restrict breathing, or even lead to more serious health problems.

Important safety tips for binding:

- Always use products that are specifically designed for binding, like our compression top or body t-tape, to reduce the risk of injury.

- Avoid binding for extended periods (usually no longer than 8-10 hours a day) to prevent damage.

- Never use materials like duct tape or elastic bands, as they can cause serious harm.

- If you experience pain, difficulty breathing, or other health issues, it's important to stop binding immediately and consult a healthcare provider.

Listen to your body and prioritize your health and safety.
